Lorraine Gladys Luck

Lorraine Gladys Luck, Kulm, ND died peacefully with the assurance of heaven in her heart and her children by her side on January 27, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Lorraine, daughter of the late Edwin and Hulda (Uttecht) Mueller, was born August 3, 1933 at their farm home near Kulm, ND. She was the first born of eight children including Norman (Jane), Calvin, Ronald, Dennis (Peggy), Curtis, Verna, and Peggy. She graduated from Kulm High School in 1951 and attended two years of college at St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo, ND.

Lorraine married Harold "Butch" Luck on December 12, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kulm. Harold owned/managed a local lumber yard in Kulm for many years. Lorraine and Harold were blessed with five children: Mary (Grant) Schelkoph, Grand Forks, ND, and their seven children and thirteen grandchildren; Nancy (Jeff) Morrow, Wahpeton, ND, and their four children and five grandchildren; Lori (Steve) van Gorkom, Kulm, ND, and their three children and six grandchildren; Randy (Itzel) Luck, Tulsa, OK and their four children and one grandchild; and Amy (Marcel) Pacada, Fargo, ND, and their two children. Harold passed away on February 6, 1983.

Lorraine was a stay-at-home mom and lived a sacrificial life for her family. She had large vegetable gardens, providing fresh vegetables and great home-cooked meals daily. Often, she stayed awake late at night, canning and freezing hundreds of quarts of produce so she could save money and feed her family healthy meals. She enjoyed cooking German food for her family and made home-made sauerkraut for many years. When she made kuchen, she always made enough to share with many others.

She was an expert seamstress and sewed beautiful custom fit clothes for herself and for her children, including baby clothes, prom dresses and suits, and wedding dresses/bride's maid dresses. She also sewed clothes for several people in the community. Her yard was surrounded by numerous flower gardens, filled with her favorite flowers. She loved listening to music, had a soothing alto voice, and use to enjoy dancing with her husband. She passed on her love of music to her children, singing with them when they were young and making sure they had opportunities to learn to play the piano and other musical instruments. Lorraine enjoyed attending music concerts and sports events that her children/grandchildren were involved in. For many years, Lorraine was in a women's bowling league. She liked to play Scrabble and many different card games. One of the highlights of her life was making a trip to the Philippines to visit her daughter, Amy, who at that time, was on staff at the Children's Shelter of Cebu.

Lorraine was a member of the Kulm Baptist Church for many years and participated in Women's Ministry events. She listened faithfully to the McCoy's radio ministry.

Lorraine is survived by her family and her friend, John. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Ronald, Dennis, and Curtis, and her sister, Peggy King.
