Hillcrest men's day winners

Mike Jarland stroked the closest second shot on Hole 6 (10 feet, 3 inches) during men's day activities at Jamestown's Hillcrest Golf Course on June 28.

Closest to the pin winners were: Dave Nelson, Hole 7 (4-3); Bob Naslund, Hole 8 (3-11.5) and Hole 17 (11-7.5); and Frank Redlin, Hole 15 (10-3). Ryan Schlafman sank the longest putt on Hole 5 (14-6).

Harry Ambers was the mystery game winner and Bubba Miller took home the door prize.

Hillcrest Open golf scramble

Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown will be hosting the Hillcrest Open four-person golf scramble on July 14.

The scramble begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $40 per person, which includes green fees, hole contest, meal and a beverage. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place in scratch and handicap divisions.

113 Jimmies named scholar-athletes

University of Jamestown accounted for 113 of the 521 student-athletes named to the 2018 North Star Athletic Association Winter/Spring Sports Scholar-Athletes list. To be eligible for the honor a student-athlete must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

Valley City State was second on the list with 79 scholar-athletes, followed by Viterbo (Wisc.) with 66.
