Optimist Club weekly athletes
Payton Gall, Kaitlyn Mullowney, Jacob Rice and Kat Miska were named Optimist Club athletes of the week.
Gall, a freshman pitcher on the Jamestown High School softball team, went 2-1 last week with 16 strikeouts. On the offensive end, she hit .400 with six RBIs.
Mullowney, a senior on the Blue Jay girls tennis team, went 3-0 in both singles and doubles (with partner Payton Hoggarth) during Jamestown's three-game winning streak.
Rice, a junior from Mitchell, S.D. on the University of Jamestown golf team, was the first golfer to reach the final round of the NAIA men's golf tournament.
Miska, a freshman from Pequot Lakes, Minn. on the Jimmie softball team, allowed one earned run and struck out 18 in 15 2/3 innings of work at the NAIA regional.
Hillcrest men's weekly winners
Dave Nelson's putt of 19 feet, 3 inches on Hole 11 was the longest during men's day activities May 24 at Hillcrest Golf Course.
Closest to the pin honors went to Mark Lundgren on Hole 7 (12-8.5), Matt Burgard on Hole 8 (15-9), Dennis Weixel on Hole 15 (27-3) and Odean Olson on Hole 17 (10 inches). Tim Staul hit the closest second shot on Hole 13 (25-7) and Clint Tompt won the door prize.
