South Dakota woman dies, North Dakota driver charged from weekend crash south of Jamestown

EDGELEY, N.D. -- A driver involved in a crash that fatally injured a South Dakota woman over the weekend has been charged.

Jose Mendosa-Sanchez, 21, of Edgeley in far south-central North Dakota south of Jamestown was charged Monday with misdemeanor aggravated reckless driving and cited $20 for disregarding a stop sign in connection to the crash around 2 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 281 south of Edgeley.

North Dakota Highway Patrol reported Mendosa-Sanchez failed to stop at a gravel road's intersection with the highway, where he was struck by 85-year-old Jean Hanson, of Aberdeen, S.D., who was southbound on Highway 281.

Hanson was flown to Fargo, where her grandson, Stace Gooding, said she died Sunday night as a result of her injuries from the accident.

Mendosa-Sanchez is held at the Stutsman County Correctional Center in Jamestown.
