Hellekson speaks at Rotary Club

Sarah Hellekson, the new Jamestown city administrator, was the guest speaker at the recent Jamestown Rotary Club meeting. She was introduced by Rotarian Katie Andersen.

Helleksen has extensive experience in city government having worked with the city of St. Louis Park, Minn., Plymouth, Minn., and the state of North Dakota. In Minnesota she worked with the unions in those communities which is quite different in the nonunion city of Jamestown, she said. Hellekson also worked with flood control in the city of Grand Forks. She is presently working with department heads in Jamestown, engineering projects and budget issues. She has only been on the job for a month so she said she is getting to know the community. She is focusing on growth in the community but reminded everyone that you cannot forget about the core areas of the community and infrastructure. The city administrator is responsible for seeing that the plans and priorities of the City Council are carried out by city staff.

Carrie Orn updated the club on the annual Wine and Brew Haha on April 19 at the Quality Inn & Suites. This is the only fundraiser that the club does during the year which helps support many community projects and organizations.

Erin Paulson presided over the meeting. The invocation was given by Darrell Losing. Christian Cairy collected “Happy Dollars” to support Rotary projects. Jason Bitz led the music with Mark Reeves on the piano.

Curt Liechty will introduce today’s program. Bob Badal will have the invocation at the April 24  meeting and also be the song leader. Mike Smyth will collect “Happy Dollars.”
